To help raise awareness around heart disease and stroke, Dixon Hughes Goodman and the DHG Foundation recently donated $6,000 to the American Heart Association Norfolk, Virginia Chapter. Health and wellness is a major focus for DHG and an integral part of the firm’s culture. Caron Crouse, CPA, Managing Partner and Laura Langton, Senior Associate, both of DHG’s Hampton Roads market, presented a check on behalf of DHG to the American Heart Association Norfolk, V.A. chapter this month.

DHG encouraged its employees and partners to “Go Red” on Friday, February 3 in support of heart health and awareness. The firm pledged to donate $10 for every person who wore red and posted a photo on social media channels using hashtags such as #DHGImpact, #GoRedForWomen and #NationalWearRedDay. As a result, nearly 600 DHG employees wore red to raise awareness about heart disease.

“The Go Red initiative is a great way to promote health and wellness among our employees and it speaks to the heart of our firm’s core values,” said Tricia Wilson, President of the DHG Foundation. "By joining together we can raise awareness about heart disease and help lead women and men on the path to prevention. We are honored to make this donation and play a role in helping the American Heart Association continue its efforts to raise awareness around heart health.”

As part of DHG’s Go Red initiatives, Laura Langton shared her story about her father’s battle with heart disease on the Life at DHG blog. "I lost my father to a heart attack when he was just 56 years old,” said Laura. “I share my story because like most of us, I never thought a heart attack would affect my family, but it did, and it can happen to yours, too. DHG's commitment to the health and well-being of their employees and community is extraordinary and I am honored to be part of this team." Similar to Laura’s story, Brian Carlton, Metro DC Managing Partner shared his experience with heart disease in an episode of the Life at DHG podcast series.
